CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Limestone College's defense was the key on Sunday afternoon as the top-ranked Lady Saints won the 2011 Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse tournament with a 15-5 win over second-seeded Pfeiffer University at the Queens Sports Complex. Limestone stays perfect at 15-0 on the year while the Lady Falcons suffer their worst loss of the season to end the year at 12-6.
Limestone controlled the action from the start as Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO) found the back of the net four minutes to cut the deficit down to 3-1 early. After a Raquel Prager goal for the Lady Saints, Natalie Marvin (South Berwick, ME) tallied later in the half as Pfeiffer trailed 5-2 at the break.
Jessica Moulton (Huntingtown, MD) gave Pfeiffer brief hope to start the second making it a 5-3 game, but Limestone would reel off the next five-straight cruising to the finish. Liz Melesh (Annapolis, MD) and Moulton would each hit midway through the period for the final strikes of the season.
Limestone outshot the Lady Falcons 33-14 while Pfeiffer held the advantage in groundballs 18-11. Kaitlin Booth (Winter Springs, FL) made nine saves in net for the Lady Falcons.
