DUE WEST, S.C. – The Pfeiffer University women's lacrosse team improved to 8-5 (6-2 CC) after putting on a dominating show Saturday afternoon, beating Erskine 18-8 on the road in Due West, South Carolina. Offensively, the Falcons scored their second-highest total of the season and reached 15 goals or more for the fifth time in 2017.
Sophomore Ally Unkenholz (Ellicott City, MD / Mt. Hebron HS) led the way for the Falcons with seven goals, setting a new career high. She added two assists for a game-high nine points. Junior Molly O'Friel (Chesapeake Beach, MD / Huntingtown HS) was also excellent, posting five goals with a game-best nine draw controls while forcing three turnovers.
In the cage, junior Emily James (Marietta, GA / Walton HS) played all 60 minutes for Pfeiffer, producing five saves in 13 shots.
Erin Landry was the first to score, giving Erskine an early 1-0 advantage after a successful free position shot at the 27:45 mark of the first half. But Unkenholz responded with three consecutive goals over the next eight minutes to give the Falcons a lead they would hold the rest of the game. PFU went on a scoring run of 9-2 to take a six-goal lead into the half and did not allow the Flying Fleet's deficit to get any closer than five for the remainder of the contest.
The win breaks a two-game losing streak, which came at the hands of the first- and second-place teams in the Conference Carolinas standings: Limestone (12-1, 7-0) and Belmont Abbey (8-6, 7-1). Erskine falls to 2-11 (1-6) with the loss.
Pfeiffer will host Barton at NE Lefko Field on Wednesday, April 12 at 5:30 p.m.
