Women's Lacrosse Falters in Home Opener

Misenheimer, NC - The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (1-1) fell to Meredith College (4-0) by a final score of 17-5 this afternoon. The game was the home opener for the Falcons who fell to .500 overall.

The Avenging Angels came out strong taking a 7-0 lead going into halftime. Turnovers plagued the Falcons throughout the game and placed a lot of pressure on Junior Goalkeeper Sam Hanlon and the Falcon defense. Hanlon was able to post several great saves throughout the afternoon and 10 of her 13 saves took place in the first half as Meredith placed 25 shots on goal.

Pfeiffer picked it up in the second half posting nine more shots on goal than their first-half total and cutting the team turnovers down by 10. The Falcons were also able to pick it up defensively and caused 11 turnovers.

Molly O'Friel put the first two goals for the Falcons on the board in the second half. Kirsten Martin and Meagan Borque tallied one goal each. O'Friel would later score Pfeiffer's last goal of the game giving her three unassisted goals on the afternoon.

The Falcons return to action on Sunday against Piedmont College at 12:00PM.
