Falcons Run Away Late in Win Over Brevard

MISENHEIMER, N.C. — The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team (3-1) pulled away late in a 14-7 victory over Brevard (1-5) on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons scored eight of the game's final nine goals to defeat the Tornados.

The talented trio of Meagan Bourque, Josie Lent and Molly O'Friel were once again too strong for the opposition. Bourque (4g, 3a) and Lent (5g, 2a) each tallied seven points on the afternoon and O'Friel finished with four goals and two assists.

Kylie Lode added a goal and an assist for the Falcons. Emily James earned the win in goal, playing the final 28 minutes and registering three saves.

The Falcons held a 25-16 advantage in ground balls and were 12-of-14 in clears. The Tornados were just 12-for-27 in clears and turned the ball over 28 times in 60 minutes.

Pfeiffer led in draw controls by a 15-8 margin and outshot the visitors 35-16.

Bourque added six ground balls and Meredith Mason chipped in four. Bourque also led the Falcons with three caused turnovers.

With the game tied at six and just under eight minutes remaining, O'Friel started the scoring run with an unassisted goal. O'Friel would strike again 26 seconds later to put Pfeiffer up two. Bourque would score back-to-back goals and O'Friel would net her third goal in a 3:21 span to give Pfeiffer a comfortable 11-6 lead.

After a Brevard goal, Lent scored twice and O'Friel added one more to close out the victory.

In total, Pfeiffer scored eight times in the final 7:55 to grab the victory.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday when they start a three-game road trip. Pfeiffer takes on Guilford at 3 p.m. before heading to Huntindon and LaGrange this weekend.
