MISENHEIMER, N.C. – On Senior Day in the Village, the Pfeiffer women's lacrosse (11-1) team wrapped up its 2018 regular season with a 19-3 victory over Averett (9-7) on Saturday afternoon. On a rainy afternoon, the Falcons celebrated the careers and contributions of Kylie Lode, Emily James, Kirsten Martin, Nicole Cote, Paige Bonds, Josie Lent and Molly O'Friel prior to the start of the game.
Once the pregame festivities ended, the game was all Pfeiffer's. The Falcons scored the first eight goals of the game in just 11:11 of action. After Averett's first goal of the first half cut the lead to 8-1, Pfeiffer would rattle off six straight and close out the first half with a 14-2 lead.
It was more of the same in the second half with four different players scoring for the Falcons.
O'Friel became the first player in program history to top 100 points for a season as she tallied seven goals and two assists to close out the regular season with 107 points. Also, with her 12 draw controls today O'Friel set the single-season mark for most draw controls in a season with 98.
Lent finished the game with four goals and one assist to go along with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Megan Bourque added three goals and two assists and Gabby Bosak had one goal and three assists.
Emily James improved to 6-0 in goal by making three saves. Breanne Sawall made 17 saves in a losing effort for the Cougars.
The Falcons held a 23-14 advantage in ground balls and a 48-8 lead in shots.
With the regular season in the books, the Falcons must wait until early May to find out its postseason fate. Pfeiffer is eligible to compete in the ECAC Tournament with the field being released after the NCAA announces its tournament field. At 11-1 and riding a 10-game winning streak, the Falcons seem to have a good shot at being selected.
