FERRUM, Va. — Thanks to three first half goals, all of corner kicks by Kat Kelley, the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (6-3) extended its win streak to five in a row with a 3-0 victory over Ferrum (5-5) on Saturday afternoon. Maddie Capel, Cayci Eaton and Tori Jackson all scored with Kelley getting three assists and finished one shy of tying the single game record of four set by Megan Blevins in 2008.
Kaley Hyatt improved to 6-3 in goal as the sophomore made five saves to earn her third shutout of the season.
Pfeiffer outshot Ferrum 15-8 on the afternoon and took 13 corners compared to four by the hosts.
Capel converted the game-winner in the 28th minute and began a stretch that saw Pfeiffer score all three of their goals in a 6:46 span. Eaton found the back of the net at the 30:06 mark of the first half, the freshman's 11th goal of the season. Senior captain Jackson would score her second of the year in the 35th minute to seal the Pfeiffer victory.
Pfeiffer's five game win streak came on the heels of a three game losing streak that had the Falcons at 1-3 on Sept. 10. However, Pfeiffer has caught fire of the last couple of weeks and has outscored opponents 21-4 during their winning streak.
The Falcons look to stay hot as they return home on Wednesday night. Pfeiffer hosts Salem at 6 p.m. in a matchup of USA South opponents.
