MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Another women's tennis match for Pfeiffer University turned into another 5-4 win as the Lady Falcons snuck past Catawba College on Tuesday afternoon at the Knapp Tennis Center. Pfeiffer stays unbeaten at 3-0 in the spring while the Lady Indians fall to 0-3.
Beginning the afternoon in doubles, Patty Dominquez and Alena Krutkina took an 8-2 win at number one doubles over Kasia Zielinski and Vanessa Silva. Catawba's Steffi Cook and Candace Hall defeated Maddy Billeter and Jonnell Carpenter 8-3 in the second doubles position while Catie Thomas and Chelsi Haefele put Pfeiffer up 2-1 in the match with an 8-2 win at number three doubles over Maggie McKee and Jennifer Dameron.
After the doubles matches put Pfeiffer up one, both teams would split the six singles matches allowing for the Lady Falcons one point win. Krutkina and Dominguez took straight set wins at number one and two, respectively while Thomas pulled out an individual win at number four, not dropping a game. Cook and Dameron put all straight-setters at three and six singles while McKee needed a third-set tiebreaker 13-11 to defeat Pfeiffer's Carpenter.
The Lady Falcons return to action on next Tuesday traveling to Hickory to battle with the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
