Hickory, NC – The Falcons men's and women's track and field teams traveled to the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University for the Southside Power and Fitness Invitational. The meet was the outdoor track and field season opener for the Falcons.
Senior Sean Bryant turned in a pair of top ten finishes during the two-day competition. Bryant opened the campaign with an 8th place finish in the 100m dash running a time of 11.09. Bryant came back on Saturday and posted a 9th place finish in the 200m dash running a time 22.73.
In the 400m hurdles, Tevin Colson and Dontavius Monroe both posted top-five finishes. Colson's time of 57.66 landed him in 3rd place, while Monroe's 59.52 saw him finish in 5th.
The Falcon men also saw a pair of top ten finishes in the men's javelin throw. Jonathan Brindle threw 37.82m (124-1) and Klay Gill threw 37.54m (123-2) which was good for 6th and 7th place overall. Gill also landed in the top ten in men's hammer throwing a career-best 42.70m (140-1) to finish 8th overall.
The Falcon women were led by a strong performance by Kylie Spencer in the 1500m run. Spencer's 5:03.04 garnered a 5th place finish.
Sophomore Tonishea Ford had career performances on both days of competition. Ford set a personal record in the hammer throw on Friday, throwing 33.85m (111-1) and in the discus throw the next day throwing 30.85m (101-2). Freshman Aaliyah Thomas also had an impressive debut in the hammer throwing 34.16m (112-1).
The Falcons' outdoor season will continue next week when they travel to Rock Hill for the Adidas/Winthrop Invitational.
