MISENHEIMER, NC – The Pfeiffer Falcons (4-3) swept both halves of the doubleheader with the Molloy Lions (0-2) on Saturday afternoon as they won 10-9 and 8-2. Zach Scudder was the big hitter on the day for Pfeiffer as he had four hits that included three doubles.
In their first game of the season Molloy jumped out to a one run lead at the end of one as Anthony Alberghina knocked in Brian Murphy with a RBI single.
The Lions added totaled three more runs in second and third but the senior first baseman Mathis came up for Pfeiffer and hit into a fielder's choice but helped score Eckard. A few batters later, Cody McKenzie singled up the middle to score Derek Perry from third.
In the fourth, Molloy added another run for the 5-4 lead, but again the Falcons answered right back as with Scudder single to score, Kirby Lambert, who doubled earlier in the inning. Damon Smith walked with bases loaded to add another run for the 6-5 lead.
Molloy added runs in the top of the fifth and sixth to take a 9-7 lead, but once again the Falcons fought back with three runs to take the lead for good at 10-7. Elwood walked on a wild pitch that aided to score Lambert from third. The left fielder Eckard hit a line drive double to left to score Elwood from first. Brandall Peters and Cody McKenzie pulled off a double steal that plated another run.
Will Altenmueller got the win in relief as he pitched 2.1 innings while striking out three. Cameron Reid came into the ninth and picked up the save for his first of the season.
Though Molloy took the 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two, Pfeiffer dominated the last three innings. Pfeiffer Christian Marciano connected on his first career hit in the fourth innings Marciano homered over the left field fence that plated three teammates.
In the bottom of the fifth, Damon Smith added another homer for Pfeiffer that traveled over the left center fence.
Pfeiffer added two more runs on wild pitches from the Lions' Luciano Morello.
Jordan Toney picks up his first win of the season with a complete game four-hitter.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Sunday afternoon as they finish up the three game series with Molloy at 1 p.m.
