SALISBURY, NC- The Pfeiffer Falcons (5-4) dropped their first game in five outings as they fell to the Catawba Indians (6-3) on Tuesday afternoon, 22-12. The Falcons as a team recorded 16 hits and four players had two hits or more.
Pfeiffer scored three in the top of the first as lead-off hitter doubled to start the game. Zach Scudder then doubled to knock in Smith from first and then Tanner Mathis hit a two-run homer to left center.
Catawba answered right back with an eight spot in the bottom of the first off Falcon starter Will Altemueller and then added another run in the bottom of the second.
In the top of the fifth, catcher Christian Marciano got his second career hit with his second homer of the year as it knocked in McKenzie.
Catawba added six more runs in the bottom of the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Pfeiffer returns to play tomorrow afternoon as the host Newberry at 3 p.m.
