MISENHEIMER, NC – Coming back from 7-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Pfeiffer Falcons (6-4) defeated the Newberry Wolves (4-8) in 11 innings by the score of 8-7 as Derek Perry hit an RBI walk-off double to win it for Pfeiffer.
Newberry jumped to early lead after two innings as Zach White hit a three-run homer to help put the Wolves up by five in the bottom of the second.
Pfeiffer got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the third as Jordan Eckard hit his second homer of the season over the left field fence as it got the Falcons back into the game, 5-2.
The Wolves added one run in the seventh and one in the eighth, but Pfeiffer answered with five runs and tie it in the bottom of the eighth as John Elwood led off the inning with a single up the middle, the next batter Eckard walked and then Tanner Mathis then singled through the right side to score Elwood. Perry came up after Mathis and with two guys on base and he hit a shot over the left center fence. Damon Smith started another rally as he singled down the right field line and then Xavier Rodriguez walked to allow Cody McKenzie to single in Smith.
Both teams played scoreless baseball through the next two and half innings before Pfeiffer completed the comeback as Eckard again got the rally started with a hit through the right side. Andrew Toney came up big with his first hit of the season as moved Isaiah Stone into scoring position. Perry came up and nailed a double over the centerfielder's head to end the game.
Eckard went 3-for-5 and 2 RBI on the afternoon. John Elwood added a hit and has continued his nine game hitting streak.
Xavier Rodriguez pitched three innings of relief to earn his first victory of the season.
Pfeiffer returns to action over the weekend as they travel to Erskine Friday and Saturday. Friday's first pitch is at 2:30 p.m.
