Lookout Mountain, GA -- It was another successful day on the diamond for the Pfeiffer baseball team (28-7) as they extended their win streak to 16 games with an 18-5 blowout victory over Covenant (13-23). The Falcons were led by Kirby Lambert, who went 3-4 with 4 runs scored and a homerun.
It was another offensive outburst for Pfeiffer as they scored in double digits for the fourth game in a row. Another common theme occured for the Falcons offense in this one, as they would score early and often while combining for 6 runs in the first two innings. The first inning started with a bang as Chaston Gordon unloaded on one to right field for a grand slam to put Pfeiffer ahead 4-0 right out of the gate. In the second, Derek Perry decided it was his turn to go yard as he launched a two run homerun to stretch the lead to 6-0.
The third inning saw another big fly, this time off the bat of Kirby Lambert for the 7th Falcon run of the game. Pfeiffer scored in every inning except for two as they routed the Scots pitching staff. The Falcons combined for 16 hits and 7 walks on the night. While the starter for Covenant, Drew Bradley, struggled through just 4 innings, things didn't fare much better for the bullpen.
The Falcons offense came up with 7 ninth inning runs off the Scots bullpen capped off by another homer, this time by senior Andrew Chomiczewski, who hit a grand slam to left field to put Pfeiffer ahead 18-5. For the game, the Falcons hit 4 homeruns that accounted for 11 of their 18 runs.
Matthew Lambert got the start on the mound for Pfeiffer and didn't disappoint. Lambert went 5.1 innings while giving up 6 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), and striking out 6. The Falcon bullpen would come in and pitch a solid 3.2 innings while giving up just 2 runs.
Games 2 and 3 of the series are scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. The first game of the double header is scheduled for 12 p.m.
