Baseball Falls to LaGrange In 10 Innings

Pfeiffer Baseball Falls to LaGrange in 10 Innings

LaGrange, Ga. (April 5, 2019)  Homestanding LaGrange College got a walk-off single with two outs in the 10th inning to drop the Pfeiffer University baseball team 7-6 on Friday night in LaGrange, Ga.

LaGrange – 23-8, 14-4 USA South
Pfeiffer – 21-5, 12-4 USA South

Pfeiffer looked good early, as the built a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.  The Falcons pushed across their first run after an error on the Panther catcher.  Kyler Fairchild then delivered a two-RBI single to put Pfeiffer up 3-0.

The Falcon lead would swell to 6-0, when three more runs crossed in the third inning.  Catcher Chaston Gordon hit a two-RBI single to push the lead to 5-0.  Second baseman Ira Dorin then singled, allowing Gordon to score to cap the third inning scoring.

After LaGrange cut the lead to 6-3 in the home half of the inning, the Panthers then scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to close to 6-5.  LaGrange then tied the game at 6-6 with a triple from McKinley Erves.

In the ninth, Pfeiffer's Ira Dorin drew a one-out walk and would later steal second.  He would advance to third on an error, but was stranded following a strikeout and a fly out to end the inning.

In the tenth, Pfeiffer again got a runner into scoring position, as Mason Striplin singled and promptly stole second.  After an intentional walk put runners on first and second, Chaston Gordon would fly out to end the Falcon threat.

LaGrange then benefitted by a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the 10th inning and would advance to second on a wild pitch. Following a strikeout and an intentional walk, the Falcons secured the second out of the inning on a groundout, but a two-out single through the right side ended the game, sending the Falcons to the 7-6 loss.
