MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Pfeiffer men's basketball team (13-2) remained a perfect 8-0 inside Merner Gym this season with a 115-98 victory over an upset-minded N.C. Wesleyan (9-9) team on Saturday afternoon. Brendan Jones stared in the victory for Pfeiffer, scoring 22 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.
The Battling Bishops got a huge effort from A.J. Frye who recorded a game-high 30 points and 15 rebounds. Teammate Damon McDowell added 24 points and eight rebounds for N.C. Wesleyan who had won five of their previous six games.
Aside from Jones, five more players scored in double figures for the Falcons. Josh Calhoun dropped 21 points and Craig Sabb added a career-high 16 points. Eric Ambrosio (17 points), Josiah Avington (12 points) and Brian Harper (10 points) rounded out Pfeiffer's top scorers on the day. Nolan Whitener led the Falcons with eight rebounds, five of which coming on the offensive glass.
The Falcons shot 46.1 percent from the field but just 26.2 percent from long range. The big discrepancy in the game came in the points off turnovers category where Pfeiffer outscored N.C. Wesleyan 47-14.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Greensboro at 2 p.m. Earlier this season, the Falcons handed the Pride a 113-85 defeat on Dec. 13.
