Pfeiffer Nets 108-88 Win at Southern Virginia
Buena Vista, Va. (Nov. 20, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University men's basketball team had sevem players post double-figures in a convincing 108-88 road win over Southern Virginia on Wednesday night.
The Falcons (3-2) and Knights (0-6) went back-and-forth early in the first half. With 14:39 remaining in the half, SVU led 13-12 before the Pfeiffer opened up a 9-0 run to lead 21-13. SVU then responded with a run of their own, bringing them to within one, 22-21, with 10:18 left.
After trailing by as much as 11 midway through the first half, Southern Virginia fought its way back to take a 39-38 edge just over four minutes left in the half. The Falcons kept with the Knights and ended the half with a 16-3 run to head into halftime up 54-41.
Pfeiffer shot 48.7 percent (19-for39) from the floor and 40 percent (10-for-29) from behind the arc compared to SVU's 51.6 percent (16-for-31) outing from the field and 50 percent (7-for-14) return from distance in the half.
In the second half, the Falcons continued to stretch their lead as SVU was unable to regroup in the second half and trim the Falcons lead, winning by a 108-88 margin.
Craig Sabb (Goose Creek, S.C.) led the Falcons with 19 points while dishing seven assists on the night. Sean Scott (Waldorf, Md.) had 13 points and seven rebounds while Tyjarek Simmons (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.), Jamaal David (Clinton, Md.), and Brady Dudley (Walnut Cove, N.C.) each had 12 points. Jerome Savoy (Waldord, Md.) finished with 11 points to round out the top scorers.
As a team, Pfeiffer connected for 16 three-pointers in the win.
The Falcons will return to play on Saturday, Nov. 23 with a 6:00 p.m. game at Bridgewater.
