GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer men's soccer team (1-3) secured its first Division III win in program history with a 2-1 defeat of Guilford (0-8) on Monday evening. The win is the first for first-year Head Coach Tony Faticoni who served as the program's top assistant for the prior two seasons.

The Falcons dominated the first half of play and held a 9-1 advantage in shots at the break. The Falcons put five shots on frame in the opening half with Guilford's only attempt sailing wide. Chris Brown struck early to put Pfeiffer ahead as the sophomore converted his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the fifth minute.

It was more of the same in the second half with Pfeiffer dominating play and capitalizing on an early goal. Just under three minutes into the second half, Felix Erana connected on his first career Pfeiffer goal as he gathered a rebound off a blocked free kick and found the back of the net. Arian Cindahl was credited with the assist on the play.

Guilford made it more interesting with a goal in the 79th minute to cut the Pfeiffer lead to 2-1. On just the Quakers second shot on goal of the night, Ricky Aguilar set up Jason Aguilar to give the home team some late hope.

The Falcons were able to withstand a comeback attempt and had a couple good chances in the final minutes but came up inches shy of netting a pair of late goals.

For the match, Pfeiffer held a 15-3 advantage in shots with each team taking three corner kicks.

Tomas Correa earned his first victory of the season as the keeper was credited with one save.

Faticoni has been the Recruiting Coordinator as well as the Associate Head Coach the past two years and the majority of the roster is comprised of his recruits. Faticoni, who coached Centenary College to a National Small Colleges National Title, earns his first career win as the leader of the Falcons.

Pfeiffer returns to action on Wednesday evening in their home opener as the Falcons look to extend its 32-match home winning streak when they take on Methodist at 7 p.m.
