Pfeiffer Men's Soccer Tabbed Fifth in USA South East Division Preseason Poll
Misenheimer, N.C. (August 21, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team has been tabbed to finish in fifth place in the East Division as the USA South announced the 2019 preseason polls.
Defending champion Greensboro College claimed the top spot in the preseason polls as voted on by the league's head coaches. The Pride claimed five first place votes and 35 points. North Carolina Wesleyan was picked to finish second, claiming two first-place votes and 32 points.
Methodist and William Peace each had 22 points to tie for third-place while the Falcons garnered 19 points to stand in fifth.
Averett and Mary Baldwin round out the rankings, with the Cougars picked sixth with 11 points and MBU seventh with six points.
Pfeiffer finished the 2018 campaign with a 9-8 overall record and finished 5-7 in league play. The Falcons return 19 players, including four starters from last season.
Junior Caleb Bratager (Wake Forest, N.C.) is the top scoring Falcon returning to play in 2019. Last season, Bratager notched six goals and a pair of assists. Also returning is sophomore teammate Jonathan Quintero (Mooresville, N.C.). Quintero scored four goals and had two assists last season.
Junior David Chavarria (Franklinville, N.C.) comes back for his junior season as the top returning goalkeeper for Pfeiffer. Last season, he logged over 800 minutes of play posting a 1.44 goals-against average while making 25 saves.
Pfeiffer will begin the 2019 season on Sunday, Sept. 1 with a 7:00 p.m. road matchup at Guilford.
