Staunton, Va. (Oct. 1, 2019) - The Pfeiffer University men's soccer team won their third straight match, earning a 2-1 overtime win over Mary Baldwin at SMA Worth Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Mary Baldwin took control early when Marcos Sasia scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute to stake the 1-0 lead for the Fighting Squirrels.
The Falcons were able to draw even in the 23rd minute with a goal from Caleb Bratager assisted by Jonathan Quintero. Quintero delivered a pass through the left side where Bratager fired it low back across the goal mouth and into the right side of the net.
The game would continue to be tied at 1-1 heading into overtime. In the 96th minute Bratager delivered the game-winner when he stole the ball from a MBU defender and scored from the top of the box.
Falcon goalkeeper David Chavarria got the win in net for the Falcon making four saves and improving to 3-5 on the season while Obdulio Argueta made five saves in the loss, falling to 4-5.
Pfeiffer held a 17-12 edge in shots, including both attempts in the extra period. Both teams were deadlocked with four corner kicks.
The win improves the Falcons to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in USA South play.
Pfeiffer will return home to host Huntingdon on Saturday, Oct. 5 for homecoming. Kickoff against the Hawks is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Lefko Field.
