Chavers Leads Falcons at JDL Team Challenge and VMI Winter Relays

Winston-Salem, NC; Lexington, VA – Pfeiffer's men's and women's track teams competed at the JDL Team Challenge on Thursday night and took a small group to the VMI Winter Relays on Friday. 

On Thursday night, the men's team broke three records and had an ECAC Indoor Championships qualifying performance.

Senior Matt Chavers continued his strong winter campaign, finishing third in the weight throw with a throw of 16.72m (54-10.25). That throw was good enough to break his previous school record. 

The men's 4x400m relay (Tevin Colson, Devon Williams, Xavier Huntley, Colby Avins) smashed the indoor relay record running a 3:31.68. Their time with conversion is good enough to qualify them for the ECAC Indoor Championships. 

Freshman Qwayvon Flowers, put in a strong top 10 performance, finishing 9th and setting a school record, in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 9.07.

Other strong performances on the night included freshman Sully Hudson's 7th place finish in the men's Mile with a time of 4:49. 17. Sophomore Keshon Roman tied his own school record in the 200m running a time of 23.71. 

On Friday night, Chavers broke the school record again and improved to number two in the ECAC standings with a throw of 17.01m(55-9.75).

Junior Cassidy Hooper, finished 5th overall and qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championships, running a new school record time of 3:12.62 in the 1000m run.

Freshman Devon Williams broke his own 1000m run record running a time of 2:38.59 finishing 5th. Freshman Colby Avins broke the school record in the men's 500m dash running a time of 1:11.10. 

The Falcons will return for the final regular season meet of the year at the UCS Invitational next Saturday, February 17th at the JDL Fasttrack in Winston-Salem, NC.
