RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Pfeiffer softball team (4-0) ran its season-opening win streak to four in a row with a pair of wins at the William Peace Tournament in Raleigh, N.C. The Falcons earned wins over McDaniel and Piedmont.
The Falcons would defeat McDaniel by a final score of 6-2 in the morning contest. Pfeiffer would push across single runs in each of the first three innings to take the lead. Makenzie Pennell had an RBI single in the top of the first and Vada Blue Sherrill added an RBI base hit of her own in the top of the second. In the top of the third, Amanda Sports drove in Kiana Millsaps with an RBI double.
The Falcons would extend the lead to 5-0 on an RBI from Millsaps that scored Stephanie Fortner and Sherrill on an error. The Green Terror narrowed the gap with a run in the bottom of the fourth but Tiffany Bartholomew would score on an error to push Pfeiffer back up by five.
McDaniel scored once in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't get any closer.
Sherrill went 2-for-3 with two runs on the game and Fortner and Millsaps each went 2-for-4 with a run. Millsaps earned the win in the circle with four scoreless innings pitched.
The Falcons would jump on Piedmont early and ride Millsaps hot pitching to a 4-0 win. Millsaps would toss a complete game, 2-hitter and improve to 4-0 in the circle. The junior struck out three.
In the top of the first, Pennell and Fortner would both score on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to give the Falcons a 2-0 edge. With a runner on, Chandler Walker smacked a 2-run bomb to put Pfeiffer up 4-0. A score that would stand the rest of the way.
Sherrill would go 3-for-4 with two stolen bases in game two.
The Falcons return to action tomorrow in the final day of the William Peace Tournament. Pfeiffer takes on Maryville at noon and East. Mennonite in the finale at 4 p.m.
