Louisville, Ky. (May 21, 2019) – Pfeiffer University senior shortstop Vada Blue Sherrill is among ten student-athletes that have been named as finalists for the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year Award, the Association has announced.
Sherrill, a product of Hiddenite, N.C., completed her Pfeiffer career in style, helping the Falcons claim back-to-back ECAC Championships on May 11 with a 9-1 win at Penn State-Behrend. Pfeiffer finished the year with an overall record of 36-7.
In the Falcons' three ECAC tournament games, she became the first player in NCAA history, regardless of division, to reach 200 hits (251), runs scored (255), RBI (200), and stolen bases (201).
The watch list is compiled annually by the NFCA's Division III All-America committee. The list was initially cut to 25 players before being trimmed to the 10-player finalist list.
The 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Pitcher and Player of the Year awards will be chosen following the NCAA Division III Championship.
