Pfeiffer Softball Headed For Stiff Competition in Fall Games at Tennessee
Misenheimer, N.C. (Sept. 23, 2019) – The Pfeiffer University softball team, winners of the past two ECAC Division III Championships will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 28 for a pair of fall games against the University of Tennessee and Chipola College.
The Falcons will first take on Chipola College at Tennessee's Sherri Lee Parker Stadium. Last season, Chipola finished with a 52-5 overall record and captured the NJCAA Division I Championship. The Indians claimed their championship by winning their final eight games, including all five games of the NJCAA Tournament. In the tournament, they outscored their opponents by an astounding 69-10 margin. Chipola won the NJCAA Championship game 19-2 over Angelina College.
Following the game with Chipola, the Falcons will play the host Volunteers at 3:00 p.m. Last season, Tennessee finished 43-17 overall and 14-10 in SEC play while advancing to the NCAA Tournament where they hosted, and won a regional by downing Longwood, Ohio State and North Carolina.
Tennessee then traveled to Florida in the NCAA Super Regional where they fell to the host Gators by a 2-1 score in the third and deciding championship game, with Florida advancing to the NCAA Women's College World Series.
The Falcons return six starters from the 2019 squad that repeated as the ECAC Division III Champions. Pfeiffer finished 36-7 overall last season and 11-5 in USA South play. Pfeiffer claimed a 7-0 win over Franciscan in the first round, downed Neumann University 6-3 in the semifinals and beat host Penn State-Behrend by a five-inning score of 9-1 in the championship game to claim their second straight ECAC title.

"We are always looking for areas to improve and better our program, and by playing top-flight competition provides our players with a tremendous student-athlete experience. Playing against such well known programs will undoubtedly enable our coaching staff to evaluate where we are in terms of preparing for the upcoming spring season."
