MISENHEIMER, NC- The Pfeiffer women's basketball team (5-10, 4-7 CC) dropped a double overtime heart breaker to Barton (7-11, 5-6 CC) on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs benefited from a 12-2 run in the second overtime to lift them over Pfeiffer to complete the season sweep.
With nine seconds left in the third quarter Meg Pritchard scored a layup as time expired in the period giving the Falcons a 44-40 lead. Safia Sheikh knocked down a three to start the fourth, which ignited a 12-0 Falcons run extending the lead to 52-40. However, the Bulldogs fought back scoring seven consecutive points cutting the lead to 55-52. Pritchard was fouled as time expired in regulation with the game tied at 60-60, however, she was unable to connect on either of the free throws, sending the game into first overtime.
The first overtime was back and forth, Sheikh knocked down a three with three minutes left in the contest giving the Falcons a 68-64 lead. Again the Bulldogs fought back when Alex Kimble connected from long range, tying the game at 70 and forcing a second overtime.
Barton scored eight of the first ten points giving the Bulldogs a 78-73 lead. Barton extended the lead to 81-74 with 47 seconds left. Sheikh knocked down two straight three pointers cutting the lead to 81-80 Bulldogs. However, it was enough as Barton knocked down a free throw securing a victory.
Kianna Wynn had a dominating performance scoring a game-high 29 points on 11-for-16 shooting and recording 16 rebounds for, registering a double-double. Tatyana Jackson scored 21 points and dished out nine assists for Barton.
The Falcons forced 33 turnovers, turning those into 42 points. Lauren Janka had a big night scoring eight points of the bench on 4-of-5 shooting, including a pair of big baskets late in the fourth quarter. Sheikh scored a team-high 25 point including six baskets from long range. Pritchard scored 14 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists and added two rejections. Brianna Jones added 11 points and three assists on the evening.
Pfeiffer returns to action on Friday, with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Erskine.
