Cold Shooting Leads to 72-61 Loss for Pfeiffer Women

– Visiting Pfeiffer University managed only two points in the final five minutes of a 72-61 road loss at Averett on Saturday afternoon.

Down 60-50 entering the fourth quarter, Pfeiffer allowed the Cougars to go on 10-4 run over the first 2:53 and could get no closer down the stretch.

The Falcons trimmed the lead to 72-59 when A'Mya McClain (Hickory, N.C.) got a basket to fall with 5:11 on the clock.  Over the remainder of the game, Averett did not score, missing five shots from the field.  Pfeiffer did not manage much better, 9 scoring once more when Brina Bentley (Chester, Va.) made a layup with 2:02 to play, providing the eventual 72-61 final.

On the game, Pfeiffer managed just 33% from the field on a 19-of-57 effort.  The Falcons did better from long range, making 7-of-17 (41.2%) from beyond the arc and 16-of-20 (80%) from the free throw line.

Averett went 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the field in the win.

Individually, Pfeiffer got 17 points from Mya Johnson (Roxboro, N.C.), 13 from senior Sydni Bickford (Concord, N.C.) and 11 from Bentley.

The loss drops the Falcons to 9-9 with the loss and 6-8 in USA South play Pfeiffer will travel to Meredith for a 2:00 p.m. game on Sunday, Feb. 3.
