MISENHEIMER, N.C.- The Pfeiffer women's soccer team opened their 2017 home schedule with a Labor Day matchup against Emory University. The Falcons (1-1) took a 4-0 loss to the Eagles, who improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Although the game remained scoreless through the first half, Emory took over in half number two, scoring four goals in the final 45 minutes of the match. Despite the score, Falcons goalie Kaley Hyatt had a total of eleven saves, including multiple magnificent saves in the first half that kept the game scoreless. The 11 saves is just two shy of her career high which was set against Young Harris on Sept. 10 of last season.
The scoring started for the Eagles in the 48th minute when Jordan Doak scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Abbie McCarter. The Eagles' scoring continued just five minutes after Doaks' goal when Danielle Darius scored her first goal of the season to stretch the lead to 2-0. From there, Emory scored two more goals to put the game out of reach.
The Eagles outshot the Falcons 23-2 on the day. Freshman Maddie Capel had both shots for the Falcons, while Abbie McCarter led the Eagles with four shots, including three shots on goal and one assist.
Up next for the Falcons is a road matchup against Meredith College next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
