BREVARD, N.C. - A trio of freshmen goal scorers led the way as the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (2-3) ended a three game losing streak with a convincing 3-1 victory over Brevard (2-2) on Wednesday evening. Maddie Capel,Gabby Bosak and Cayci Eaton all scored to send Pfeiffer past the Tornados.
In a matchup of two programs transitioning from Division II to Division III, it was Pfeiffer that had the upper hand throughout the contest. In the 20th minute, Krystal Jaimes fired a shot that hit the crossbar and narrowly missed giving Pfeiffer the lead. Eight minutes later, Capel would break the draw with her third goal of the season on an unassisted strike at the 28:45 mark.
2:42 into the second half, Eaton gave Pfeiffer a two-goal cushion as the Harrisburg, NC native connected on her fifth goal of the season. In the 78th minute, Tori Jackson assisted on Bosak's strike which put the match out of reach. Brevard would break through with a goal in the 87th minute but it was too little, too late for the hosts.
The duo of Eaton and Capel, who both came to Pfeiffer via Hickory Ridge High School, have combined for nine of Pfeiffer's 13 goals on the season.
Sophomore Kaley Hyatt recorded six saves in goal to earn her second win of the season.
Pfeiffer took all five corners in the match and held a 17-11 advantage in shots.
This marked the third meeting between the two programs with Pfeiffer winning all three matches by a combined score of 7-2. In their most recent match, Pfeiffer came away with an identical 3-1 victory on Oct. 16, 2013 in Misenheimer.
The Falcons return to action next Tuesday night as they host former Conference Carolinas foe Barton College at 6 p.m.
