DANVILLE, VA -- Cayci Eaton's overtime game-winner extended the Pfeiffer women's soccer team's (5-3) winning streak to four straight as the Falcons edged Averett (2-3-2) in double overtime on Wednesday evening. The goal was Eaton's 10th of the season and already her fourth game-winning goal.
The Falcons dominated the match but just couldn't find a second goal. Pfeiffer held a huge 27-6 advantage in shots, including a 16-3 mark in the second half and two overtime periods. Averett's goalkeeper Bailee Brown kept the Cougars alive, making 13 saves in the losing effort.
Averett struck first as Christine Harris took a cross from the far sideline and beat Pfeiffer goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt for the Cougars' only score of the evening. The teams would go into the halftime break with Averett hanging on to the one-goal advantage.
In the 60th minute, Maggie Walker converted her first strike of the season with the assists going to Kat Kelley and Tori Jackson. A volleyed cross from the near sideline found Walker who evened the score at one.
Eaton would break the hearts of the home faithful as her goal 1:08 into the second overtime period sent Pfeiffer home with a victory. Her 10 goals in eight games this season already represents the ninth highest mark in a single season in program history. Eaton has the final nine matches to try to catch Laura Crews' mark of 20 set in 2006.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday as they travel to Ferrum for a 5 p.m. match. Pfeiffer will look to extend its winning streak to five straight.
