RALEIGH, N.C. - For the second time this season, the Pfeiffer women's soccer team (8-7) suffered a one-goal defeat at the hands of Meredith (11-4). After falling 1-0 to the Avenging Angels in early September, Pfeiffer was on the wrong end of a 2-1 score on Wednesday evening.

Meredith, who currently sits in second place in the USA South conference standings, are one of the toughest teams to score against in the league. The Avenging Angels had allowed just 12 goals in 14 matches heading into tonight.

The hosts ended a scoreless draw in the 51st minute when Jessica Wallace scored her first of two goals on the night. Just over 10 minutes later, Wallace would get another one past goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt for the game-winning score.

However, the Falcons would not give in and battled back with a late goal from freshman Maddie Capel. With 4:38 to play, Kat Kelley sent a corner into the box that found the head of Capel who converted her ninth goal of the year. For Kelley, the assist marked her seventh of the season. Unfortunately, time ran out on Pfeiffer's comeback bid and the Falcons suffered their second straight loss.

Hyatt made eight saves on the night to give her 82 for the season. That total gives her the 10th most saves in a single season and is the most since Britt Polly stopped 92 shots in 2012.

Pfeiffer wraps up its 2017 campaign with a road trip to N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. With a win, Pfeiffer would complete its first season in Division III with a record above .500.
