Falcons Extend Streak to Six With 4-0 Win at Averett

Danville, Va. (Oct. 15 2019) –  The Pfeiffer University women's soccer team extended their winning streak to six-straight with a convincing 4-0 road shutout of Averett in Danville, Va. on Tuesday night.

The Falcons struck first at the 9:42 mark when senior midfielder Hailey Metzger (Naples, Fla.) scored her third goal of the season on a pass from Gabby Bosak (Charleston, S.C.). The assist for Bosak was her team-leading eighth of the season.

Bosak was able to get a head on a Cougar goal kick, then Metzger collected the ball and beat Averett goalkeeper Morgann Dills high in the box to claim the 1-0 lead.

The Pfeiffer lead went to 2-0 in the 35th minute when Meredith Manson (Auburndale, Fla.) scored on a pass from sophomore Mackenzie Pruitt (Havelock, N.C.).  Manson's goal beat the goalkeeper on the inside post after Pruitt's pass found the center of the box.

After halftime, Pruitt scored her eight goal of the year after junior Cayci Eaton (Harrisburg, N.C.) found Pruitt alone in front of the Averett goal in the 51st minute, making it 3-0 Pfeiffer.

Freshman Patricia Summers (Lenoir, N.C.) capped the scoring in the 73rd minute with an unassisted goal where she dribbled to the right side of the Cougar box and firing a shot that beat the goalkeeper to the left.

As a team, Pfeiffer outshot Averett by an astounding 45-3 margin and had nine corner kick opportunities while Averett was not allowed a corner kick on the night.

Senior goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.) earned the win, making a pair of saves in 60:30 of work.  Freshman Alyssa Keatts (Snow Hill, N.C.) spelled Hyatt for the remaining 29:30, combining for the shutout, which was the fifth straight shutout.

All told, Pfeiffer has not allowed a goal in the past 536:25 of play.

The win improves the Falcons to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in USA South play while Averett remains winless at 0-15 and 0-5 in league play

Pfeiffer will return to play on Saturday, Oct. 19 with a 2:00 p.m. road matchup at N.C. Wesleyan.
