Pfeiffer Women's Soccer Drops 2-1 Match at N.C. Wesleyan
Rocky Mount, N.C. (Oct. 19, 2019) – The Pfeiffer women's soccer team gave up a goal in each half en route to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of N.C. Wesleyan in Rocky Mount on Saturday afternoon.
The Bishops, playing on their home field, went up 1-0 at the 25>38 mark when Sarah Cook pushed a shot past Pfeiffer goalkeeper Kaley Hyatt (St. Cloud, Fla.). The goal was the first conceded by the Falcons in over 572 minutes of game play.
N.C. Wesleyan extended their lead to 2-0 with agoal from Cydney Nichols with just under a minute played in the second half.
Sophomore forward Mackenzie Pruitt (Havelock, N.C.) drew the Falcons to within 2-1 at the 49:23 mark.
The Falcons would not be able to score the equalizer, despite outshooting the Bishops by a 15-7 margin, including a 6-3 mark in the second half.
Pfeiffer also had four corner kick opportunities in the second half, but could not convert on the set pieces.
Hyatt took the loss for the Falcons, as she stands at 9-4 on the season after making four saves on the afternoon.
The Falcons now stand at 10-4 on the season, 6-1 in USA South play while N.C. Wesleyan improves to 6=9 and 4-4 in league play.
Pfeiffer will return to Lefko Field for a USA South showdown with Greensboro College on Wednesday night, Oct. 23. Kickoff against The Pride is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
